Dr Kershaw's Hospice News
18th February 2010 Happy Year of the Tiger! |
| Xin Nian Hao! Happy Chinese New Year to you all!
Here at Dr. Kershaw’s Hospice we celebrated the new year of the tiger with a day of Chinese cultural activities. Spring and Ming Hua from the Confucius Institute at the University of Manchester transported the Hospice to the Far East with beautiful Chinese decorations and basic Chinese language lessons. We tried our hands at some very entertaining Chinese games, including a number of failed attempts to repeatedly kick a feathered shuttlecock. They then reduced us all to emotional wrecks with a showing of a beautiful Chinese film, The Road Home. We also enjoyed a delicious Chinese meal, provided by Oldham caterers, World Cuisine. The day raised a fantastic £116.50 for the Hospice, as part of the fundraising by our Great Wall of China Trek Team. Our thanks to the Confucius Institute for their generous support, and for making our Chinese New Year a day to remember. Click here to view pictures from the day in our online photo album. Two of our Great Wall of China trekkers, Monica and Linda, are continuing their fundraising with a musical evening on Saturday 8th May, featuring Oldham band ‘Mid-Life Crisis’. The event is at St. Edward’s Church Hall in Lees. Tickets are just £10, including a meat and potato pie supper. To book, please call 0161 624 9984. |
