3rd August 2009 The Great Wall of China Challenge |
| An intrepid group of volunteers from Dr. Kershaw’s Hospice are embarking on their biggest challenge yet – a fundraising trek of the Great Wall of China.
Dr. Kershaw’s Hospice, in partnership with Springhill Hospice in Rochdale, will be taking the group on the five day trek in October 2010. The trek will include challenging climbs through picturesque scenery, taking in several of the Great Wall’s impressive Watchtowers. They will follow old sections of the Great Wall, as well as restored sections with smooth flagstones and lots of steps! It will be demanding but also very rewarding, particularly on a clear day when they can look at the vast and beautiful mountain ranges. After five days of demanding trekking, the group will be allowed to rest briefly in Beijing before returning home. The volunteers are putting themselves through all of this to raise much needed money for their local hospice. Dr. Kershaw’s Hospice requires £4,400 per day in order to continue providing specialist care and support to patients and their families in Oldham. Each participant will raise a minimum of £2,900, more than half of which will go towards supporting the specialist services of the hospices. The trip is open for anyone who wants to take on a challenge or simply has a dream to visit one the world's great wonders. This is a real physical and mental challenge which will earn every penny of sponsorship raised. Fundraising can be hard work, but the memories and experiences this great trek offers don’t get any better. Please click here to view the guideline day by day trek itinerary. NB.
